Chris and Marie Sherman met and married in the early 1980s. They both had a dream to someday live in the country and raise their own food, especially when their children came along. Their first experience was on 10 rocky acres in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas just outside of Yosemite National Park. By the end of the first week after the move, they went from a yellow Lab named Goldie and a pet turtle to a pregnant Alpine goat, a Suffolk ewe lamb, a flock of chickens and another dog. Their four children grew up having fresh milk, eggs and produce from the garden.
We are a family-owned and operated, small-scale market farm just south of Eugene. Our farm strives to provide our community with a variety of quality, nutritious, and responsibly grown produce and chicken and quail eggs. Our belief in being stewards of the earth informs how we farm.
Farming Practices: We use organic and sustainable standards as we work toward certification. We use organic soil amendments and fertilizers, diverse crop rotations, and cover crops. Animals are not confined. We use management-intensive pasturing. In addition to pasture, we feed our animals organic and/or soy- and corn-free, non-GMO feed.
Produce Raised: Traditional, heirloom, & root vegetables, plums, salad & other greens, herbs, chicken eggs, micro-greens, vegetable, herb & flower starts, quail eggs. We raise Icelandic Sheep, Alpine dairy goats, various chicken breeds and Cotournix Quail. We also occasionally have livestock for sale such as lambs, breeding sheep, Alpine goats and kids and wool from our sheep.
